Today my mama threw her make up away. Well, most of it anyway. After seeing some photos I took of her yesterday while she was fully made up, she decided she didn't want to wear foundation/powder or anything like that. It was a good choice for her, because I've always told her that her skin looks good enough without it. My photography helped her see that.
So here she is all fresh-faced and freshly scrubbed. She says she likes this look a lot better, and I can't help but agree. My mama is so pretty.
This was a great weekend overall. I got in a lot of time with my new camera and the shots I have to show for it are fabulous if I must say so myself, and believe me, I must.

I'm sure those around me will eventually grow tired of hearing me say over and over again, "I love this camera!" That's too bad. I do love this camera. I can take pictures in full, vivid color, black and white and sepia tones. I can record video with stereo sound. I can zoom in, zoom out and take pictures with flash or without. It has an image stabilization system that helps with my shaky hands. It looks like a professional camera. People compliment it when they see you holding it. I fixed mine so that when I operate the different functions, it makes a tweeting bird sound.
I took loads of pictures of Nakachi, Knaw'lej, Daryl, my mom, Sharmayne, Lashawn, T'Kiyah and anyone else that happened to wander in front of my lens. I think I like shooting people the best.

I had a photography assignment to complete this weekend. It was based around our lesson on composition, and basically, I had to submit six photos that incorporated at least one of the six rules for good composition. I asked my friends and family to volunteer as my photo subjects, and I spent most of the day today shooting in daylight (as per the instructions) to capture just the right shot. As I told someone last night, I got paranoid at the thought of someone judging my pictures based on my having followed the directions. I found myself often focusing on one particular rule over any of the others. I tried to switch it up a bit, and I am very pleased with the results that I got.
I managed to narrow down my six pictures and sent them off tonight, so cross your fingers and hope with me that my instructor finds them worthy of the full points possible for the exercise. Next week's assignment is called "Everyday Life". We will have to photograph people doing everyday things. We have to show both hands, and they have to be actively involved in some everyday activity. We also have to show both eyes. I'm wondering if photos of the baristas at Starbucks will be acceptable.
This photography thing has got me. I'm hooked like it's heroin. I'm always fondling the camera looking for an excuse to turn it on and snap something. I wore out my first four batteries today, and the trip of the thing is that they were the four Panasonic batteries that came with the camera when I bought it.
I'm sure I will wear packs and packs of batteries out before it is all over with.
I love this camera.

I have been going over and over the decision for quite some time now, but last night I finally made up my mind, and today i went and purchased the advanced point and shoot i've been lusting for, the Canon S3 IS.
let me just say that i was in love with it when i held it in my hand at the store. feeling the weight of it in my palm, going over the features with the best buy salesman and being told by another person that this is the closest you can get to digital SLR without buying a digital SLR sealed the deal for me. and now it's mine, all mine.
i still plan on buying a digital slr, but i'd like to be more familiar and comfortable with the use of the equipment before i do so. i believe that will help me make the decision when it comes time for me to purchase my digital slr.
i have held on to my fuji finepix a205 for three years now. i don't plan on tossing it, but upon coming home (well, to my mom's house anyway) and snapping pictures first with the old camera and then with the new one, i found it hard to figure out why i had held off on upgrading for so long in the first place. i have a lot of manual reading to do, but i know it will be worth it. besides, i need to be an expert at using this camera by the time i get to mardi gras in three weeks.
so here i am, in all my sepia-toned glory, all happy with my new camera.
i just fell in love with photography all over again.
